I made your hat for my own soldier, my daughter, who did her basic training in November and slept in a tent at night. She was freezing the first night, then I reminded her to wear her hat. After that she told me she felt toasty warm! So the hats are great for anyone, not just combat soldiers...
It's such an easy, warm and well-fitting hat, that I used the same pattern to knit a hat for my younger daughter, but in light blue.
